The village also features a world-class shell collection and displays reflecting local Aboriginal culture, while the War Museum has been formally recognised as an official repository for historic military items and memorabilia. The Artesian Basin Centre, too, captures its share of the audience with displays that plot the rise and fall of the prickly pear menace and an informative model of the artesian basin which waters so much of the Australian bush. The annual Wildflower Festival in September includes self-drive tours through part of the state's largest state forest.
Miles Historical Village Museum and Visitor Information Centre is located on Warrego Highway on the eastern end of the Miles Township.
With over 30 buildings and countless displays this complex has become an important tourist destination featuring authentic and original buildings from the 19th and 20th Centuries.
The Miles Back to the Bush Festival is a non profit incorporated association. We are volunteers representing our local community to help celebrate our local region and welcome visitors.
The festival’s origins began in the 1950s with the Miles Wildflower Festival and since then has been renamed, including the Miles Beef, Bells and Bottletree Festival.Dogwood Crossing continues to bring arts and culture to the greater Western Downs. Proudly fostering talent and providing access to valuable learning resources for our youth. The Centre houses the library, IT centre, holds workshops and information sessions and is also home to the John Mullins Memorial Art Gallery.
Miles is abundant in native flora and fauna. Travellers to Miles in September will witness the beauty of the wildflower season, and are urged to stay around for the spectacular Miles Wildflower Festival. Locals say the festival reminds them that the area around Miles is alive with dramatic and beautiful displays of nature. The Festival is incorporated as a part of the Back to the Bush Festival and includes street parades, market stalls and self-drive tours of nearby wildflowers fields.
